Lightning and surge protection

Lightning and surge protection

Engineering of lightning and overvoltage protection systems in accordance with DIN EN 62305 and in compliance with the law on the electromagnetic compatibility of equipment and installations (EMVG)

Due to changes in climatic conditions and the increased use of high-tech in power plants and all types of industrial plants, good lightning and surge protection management is essential. The sense of cost deployment for implementation quickly becomes clear through a risk-benefit analysis: Prevention is better than losses that can go into the billions and threaten entire livelihoods.

Basic Engineering:
  • Determination of the actual status of the structure including the relevant parameters for the lightning protection risk analysis;
  • Implementation of lightning protection risk analysis; Definition of the lightning protection concept with the lightning protection zones (LPZ);
  • Coordination of the lightning protection concept with the owner / builder; Lightning protection risk management;
  • Lightning protection risk analysis according to DIN EN 62305; Determination of optimal protective measures;
  • Software-based determination of remaining residual risks;
  • Sources of damage; Causes of damage; Types of damage;
  • Reduction of the residual risk (R) in an iterative process to R (risk of damage) RT (tolerable or acceptable risk);
  • Protection against direct lightning and external lightning protection measures;
  • Termination systems;
  • Discharge systems, earthing systems, protection against flashovers / sparking, overvoltage protection and internal lightning protection, lightning equipotential bonding / separation distances (approximations), use of overvoltage protection devices, protection to prevent inductive and capacitive coupling, shielding measures for cables, lines, cable routes and buildings, detail -Engineering, documentation according to the lightning protection concept, lightning protection site plan, lightning protection zone plan, 3D plans and sectional drawings for the representation of the lightning protection zones, mass determination and creation of the performance index, calculation of the investment, cost estimation, commissioning planning, development of vendor-neutral tender documents, monitoring of the work, commissioning coordination, shutdown Planning, preparation of expert examinations, initial and re-examination, examination;
  • Maintenance, determination of the maintenance intervals in consultation with the authorities and the operator with regard to the lightning protection class / test interval of the effects of lightning damage, checking the lightning and surge protection, checking all documentation and documentation including compliance with the standards, testing the external / internal Lightning protection system, testing of earthing system and earthing resistors incl. Transitions, inspection of the fastenings according to the lightning protection system, preparation of a test report, restoration of the functioning of the lightning protection system, documentation of the maintenance work.
